Professor Andrew Krentz offers patient-centred expertise in diabetes and related cardiometabolic disorders.

About Andrew

Andrew has broad experience of diabetes and related disorders gained at leading institutions in the UK and USA. His main clinical interests are:

  • Diabetes – type 2 diabetes; diabetes in older people; inpatient diabetes
  • Endocrinology – thyroid; pituitary; male hypogonadism; female hyperandrogenism
  • Cardiometabolic medicine – hypertension; dyslipidaemia; obesity; pre-diabetes
  • Healthy longevity – frailty; cognitive impairment

He trained in diabetes and human metabolism at the University of Birmingham, UK (doctoral thesis: Metabolic Studies in Insulin Resistance) and the University of New Mexico School of Medicine, Albuquerque, USA. His professional expertise extends to preclinical and early-phase clinical drug development. In 2019, he was awarded honorary Fellowship of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Medicine in recognition of his contributions to translational medicine including innovations in endocrinology practice and research. He has an active interest in precision diagnostics and therapeutics.

Andrew has authored more than 200 scientific publications and a dozen well-received textbooks including Type 2 Diabetes in Practice (2001); Insulin Resistance: A Clinical Handbook (2002); The Metabolic Syndrome & Cardiovascular Disease (2007); Translational Research Methods for Diabetes, Obesity & Cardiometabolic Drug Development (2015).

He has an extensive record in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education including a visiting position as Clinical Instructor, University of California San Diego, USA (2015 to date).

Andrew is active on the editorial boards of several international medical journals; he is the founding Editor-in-Chief of Cardiovascular Endocrinology & Metabolism.
