Dr Fadi Jouhra
I am currently a locum consultant cardiologist in heart failure and complex devices at University Hospital of Lewisham and also honorary consultant cardiologist at St Thomas’ Hospital. I obtained my CCT in October 2018. I began my cardiology training at King’s College Hospital in Oct 2011 as a Locum Appointment Trainee for 1 year. During that year, I developed a specialist interest in Heart Failure and went on to secure a further 2-year fellowship in heart failure at King's. I obtained a cardiology NTN in the Kent Surrey & Sussex Deanery in 2014 and went on to train at Princess Royal Haywards Heath Hospital and Eastbourne District General Hospital.
During the course of general cardiology training, I consolidated my heart failure knowledge and developed a strong interest in pacing. Subsequently, I obtained a Heart Failure and Devices subspecialty number. I spent the first subspecialty year at St George’s Hospital London where I achieved a high volume of device implants as well as continuing my heart failure training. This was greatly facilitated by St George’s hospital establishing the first dedicated Acute Heart Failure Unit in the UK. My second subspecialty year was at St Thomas’ Hospital where I was independently implanting complex devices including CRTs. I have also implanted subcutaneous ICDs and assisted in leadless pacemaker implantations.
I am passionate and enthusiastic about developing a centre of excellence for Heart Failure and Devices. My goal is to achieve and maintain high standards of care by implementing quality and service improvement projects that lead to improvement of patients’ care and cost efficiencies. For example, I am currently working on developing multiple pathways to improve heart failure services at Lewisham Hospital. For instance, I am working on developing intravenous iron pathway, new Entresto clinic, palliative care link and implementing pan London heart failure diagnostic pathway where we can provide rapid access heart failure clinics.
Last year as a final year trainee, I undertook a service improvement project where I worked on improving efficiency and turn over in the catheter labs. This enhanced my understanding of the NHS structure and the rapidly changing challenges. I will apply these skills to my
